As a huge makeup enthusiast, I included it in my routine to see what was really inside the tube. 😉 Spoiler: I wasn’t disappointed!

My experience with the Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara

If you’ve read other posts on my blog, you might already know my review of Younique products are very positive. And I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed with this latest test.

Here’s why I love the Moodstruck Epic 4D:

• Instant length and volume: my lashes immediately look so much longer and thicker, as if I had applied false lashes. The “wow” effect is real 🥰.
• Beautiful curl: the 4D really opens up the eyes. My lashes are more curled and my eyes look bigger and more awake (hello doe eyes!).
• Customizable result: with a single coat, I already get a defined yet quite natural look. And with two coats, it’s absolutely stunning.
• Long-lasting wear, zero fallout: no panda eyes by the end of the day, and I don’t find any tiny fibers under my eyes along the way.
• Easy makeup removal: it comes off without excessive effort, a good makeup remover is enough (much easier than a classic waterproof mascara that requires scrubbing 🥵).
• Gentle on sensitive eyes: no irritation to report on my end. I wear contact lenses and my eyes didn’t react at all.

Result: no need for false lashes for me anymore – this mascara does the job all by itself. 🎉

My friends even asked me if I had eyelash extensions because the look is so beautiful. Needless to say, I’m hooked!

What makes the Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara unique?

The Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara is not an ordinary mascara. It clearly stands out from the competition thanks to several features:

1. Y-shaped fibers for a stunning false-lash effect

The main feature of the Younique 4D mascara is its Y-shaped fibers integrated into the formula. These microfibers attach along each lash as you apply the brush, like tiny extensions that thicken and lengthen every lash.

The result: your lashes multiply to the extreme, the volume/length effect is truly impressive – we’re talking about a genuine false-lash effect.

Unlike some older-generation fiber mascaras, everything here is done in one step (no need to add separate fibers) and, importantly, you don’t see any awkward little strands. The Y-shaped fibers interlock evenly around the lashes, without falling into the eyes or onto the cheeks.

A quick historical note: the Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara basically modernized the concept of the famous Younique 3D mascara from a few years ago (which worked in two stages with fibers plus gel). Here, everything is already blended into one product — much more convenient!

2. A clever double-sided brush

To complement these magical fibers, Younique designed a really smart 2-in-1 brush. The wand of the 4D mascara has two different sides:

• A “flat” side with shorter bristles, which allows you to deposit the product and fibers.
• A “comb” side with longer teeth, used to separate and stretch the lashes all the way to the tips.

In practice, this means you can load your lashes with volume using the flat side, then define/stretch with the other side for a clean, clump-free result. It’s really well thought out.

This double-sided brush also makes it easier to apply to all lashes: you can catch the tiny lashes in the corners of the eye by slightly rotating the brush, and you can create a beautiful curl using the curling side.

3. Volume, length, and curl in one step

The Moodstruck Epic 4D is a bit of an all-in-one for lashes. It simultaneously adds thickness, length, and curl.

From the very first stroke, you see a big difference in your gaze: lashes are fuller, longer, deeply black, and lifted. Of course, you can add a second coat for even more drama, but it’s not even necessary.

It’s quite rare to find a mascara that excels equally in volume, length and curl. Often, you have to layer a base, then a lengthening mascara, then a curling one… Here, the 4D does it all on its own. With one swipe, your lashes gain volume and lift towards the sky. 😍

4. Long-lasting wear without smudges

What’s the point of spectacular mascara if it ends up with black smudges under your eyes? Luckily, the 4D mascara also delivers on hold. 💪

Once applied and dry, it lasts all day without any trouble. I haven’t noticed any smudging over the hours: it doesn’t run, doesn’t transfer onto the eyelid (even when my lids get a bit oily by the end of the day), and barely flakes.

Unlike some cheap fibers, the 4D fibers stay firmly on the lashes and don’t fall onto the cheeks.

5. An enriched formula that’s gentle on the eyes

Younique has paid special attention to the formulation of its 4D mascara with ingredients that nourish the lashes: for example, it contains rice bran extract, an antioxidant that helps protect the lashes from external damage.

The Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara is also fragrance-free and ophthalmologically tested. It is therefore suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.

Finally, it’s good to know that Younique is a cruelty-free brand 💜: no animal testing, and a commitment to using safe ingredients. The 4D formulation is “clean” in the sense that it contains no controversial substances.

At the moment, I haven’t found an exact equivalent from other brands. Some mascaras come close to this false-lash effect, but few offer at the same time the length, volume, and crisp definition of the 4D. Clearly, it’s a one-of-a-kind mascara that deserves a place in your makeup bag if you love having spectacular lashes.

Moodstruck Epic 4D Mascara vs Younique Quadra Mascara: Which One to Choose?

Younique offers several high-end mascaras in its collection, including the Quadra 4-in-1 and our Epic 4D fiber mascara. Both are excellent, but they cater to slightly different needs and budgets:

• Younique Quadra 4-in-1 Mascara (€60): ideal if you’re looking for a complete care mascara that combines makeup, primer, serum, and tubing technology. It provides volume and length with a somewhat natural finish. Bonus: its formula strengthens your lashes and it’s super easy to remove with warm water.

• Moodstruck Epic 4D Mascara (€36): perfect for a dramatic false-lash effect in just one step thanks to the Y-shaped fibers. It delivers more volume from the first coat, for an XXL look. More affordable than the Quadra, it doesn’t have lash care benefits and requires a bit more careful makeup removal.

In summary: if you want an ultra-complete mascara with built-in care and budget is not an issue, go for the Quadra. If you’re looking for an intense look at a reasonable price, the 4D will satisfy you.

Personally, I like to use the Quadra daily to strengthen my lashes, and I choose the 4D when I want an extra spectacular effect.

How to apply the Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara?

Here are my recommendations for applying Younique’s 4D mascara:

1. At the base of the lashes: Place the side of the brush with the most fibers (the “flat” side) at the root of your upper lashes, then move upward toward the tip.
2. Separation/curling: Slightly rotate the wand to use the other side (with longer bristles) and make zigzags to properly separate each lash and curl them.
3. Layering (optional): For an even more voluminous effect, you can apply a second coat before the first layer is completely dry.
4. Lower lashes: Use the remaining product and gently apply it to your lower lashes. Go slowly to avoid overloading.
5. Makeup removal: Opt for a two-phase makeup remover or a cleansing oil. My tip: soak two cotton pads and place them on your closed eyes for about 10 seconds to dissolve the mascara. Then gently swipe downward. The pigments and fibers will transfer onto the cotton.

Price of Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara

The Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara costs £26.

Yes, £26 for a mascara is a higher investment compared to typical drugstore mascaras, I admit. However, considering the results achieved, I find the quality/price ratio to still be very good.

For comparison, many department store mascaras (luxury brands) are priced around £30-35, and none of the ones I’ve tried have given me such a “wow” effect as Younique’s 4D. Not to mention the cost of salon eyelash extensions (much more expensive each month!).
