My experience with the Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara

If you’ve read other posts on my blog, you might already know my review of Younique products is very positive. And I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed with this new test.

Here’s why I love the Moodstruck Epic 4D:

• Instant length and volume: my lashes instantly look so much longer and fuller, almost like I’m wearing false lashes. The “wow” effect is real 🥰.
• Beautiful curl: the 4D really opens up the eyes. My lashes are more curled, and my eyes look bigger and more awake (hello doe-eyed look!).
• Customizable result: with just one coat, I already get a defined yet quite natural finish. And with two coats, it’s downright spectacular.
• Long-lasting, zero fallout: no panda eyes at the end of the day, and I don’t find any little flakes under my eyes along the way.
• Easy removal: it comes off without extra effort, a good makeup remover is enough (much simpler than with a typical waterproof that you have to really scrub away 😅).
• Gentle on sensitive eyes: No irritation to report on my end. I wear contact lenses and my eyes didn’t react at all.

Result: no need for false lashes anymore – this mascara does the job all on its own. 🎉

My friends even asked me if I had extensions because the look is so beautiful. Needless to say, I’m convinced!

What makes the Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara unique?

The Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara is not your ordinary mascara. It clearly stands out from the competition thanks to several key features:

1. Y-shaped fibers for a stunning false lash effect

The standout feature of Younique’s 4D mascara is its Y-shaped fibers built into the formula. These microfibers attach along each lash as the brush passes, like tiny extensions that thicken and lengthen every lash.

The result: your lashes multiply to the extreme, creating an impressive volume and length effect – truly a false lash effect.

Unlike some older-generation fiber mascaras, here everything happens in one step (no need to add separate fibers) and most importantly, you won’t see any unsightly little strands. The Y-shaped fibers interlock evenly around the lashes, without falling into your eyes or onto your cheeks.

A quick historical note: the Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara kind of modernized the concept of the famous Younique 3D mascara from a few years ago (which worked in two steps with fibers + gel). Here, everything’s already combined into a single product – much more convenient!

2. A clever double-sided brush

To complement these magical fibers, Younique designed a truly smart 2-in-1 brush. The mascara’s 4D wand has two different sides:

• A “flat” side with shorter bristles, which lets you deposit the product and fibers.
• A “comb” side with longer teeth, used to separate and stretch the lashes to the tip.

In practice, this means you can load your lashes with volume using the flat side, then define/stretch them with the other side for a clean, clump-free result. It’s really well thought out.

This double-sided brush also makes it easy to apply to all lashes: you can catch the small lashes in the corners of your eyes by gently rotating the brush, and you can create a beautiful curl using the curling side.

3. Volume, Length, and Curl in One Step

The Moodstruck Epic 4D is a bit like the all-in-one for lashes. It gives thickness, length, and curl simultaneously.

From the very first stroke, you see a big difference in your gaze: lashes look fuller, longer, deeply black, and lifted. Of course, you can add a second coat for even more drama, but it’s not even necessary.

It’s quite rare to find a mascara that excels in volume, length and curl all at once. Often, you have to layer a primer, then a lengthening mascara, then a curling one… Here, the 4D does it all by itself. With a single swipe, your lashes gain volume and lift skywards. 😍

4. Long-lasting wear without smudging

What’s the point of a spectacular mascara if it ends up with black smudges under your eyes? Luckily, the 4D mascara also delivers on wear. 💪

Once applied and dry, it lasts all day without any trouble. I noticed no smudging over the hours: it doesn’t run, transfer onto the eyelid (even when my eyelids get a bit oily by the end of the day), and barely flakes at all.

Unlike some cheap fiber mascaras, the 4D fibers stay perfectly in place on the lashes and don’t fall onto the cheeks.

5. A formula enriched and gentle on the eyes

Younique has paid special attention to the formulation of its 4D mascara with ingredients that nurture your lashes: for example, it contains rice bran extract, an antioxidant that helps protect lashes from external aggressors.

The Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara is also fragrance-free and tested under ophthalmological control. It’s therefore suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.

Finally, it’s worth knowing that Younique is a cruelty-free brand 💜: no animal testing, and a commitment to using safe ingredients. The 4D formulation is “clean” in the sense that it contains no controversial substances.

At the moment, I haven’t found an exact match in other brands. Some mascaras come close to this false-lash effect, but few offer length, volume, and precise definition all at once like the 4D. Clearly, it’s a one-of-a-kind mascara that deserves a spot in your makeup bag if you love having spectacular lashes.

Mascara Moodstruck Epic 4D vs Mascara Younique Quadra: Which one to choose?

Younique offers several high-end mascaras in its collection, including the Quadra 4-in-1 and our Epic 4D fiber mascara. Both are excellent, but they cater to slightly different needs and budgets:

• Mascara Younique Quadra 4-in-1 ($57): ideal if you’re looking for a multi-care mascara that combines makeup, primer, serum, and tubing technology. It delivers volume and length with a somewhat natural finish. Bonus: its formula strengthens your lashes, and removal is super easy with warm water.

• Mascara 4D Moodstruck Epic ($30): perfect for a dramatic false-lash effect in just one step thanks to Y-shaped fibers. It adds more volume from the very first coat for an XXL look. More affordable than the Quadra, it doesn’t have a care action and requires a bit more careful makeup removal.

In summary: if you want an all-in-one mascara with integrated care and your budget allows, go for the Quadra. If you’re looking for an intense look at a reasonable price, the 4D will satisfy you.

Personally, I like to use the Quadra daily to strengthen my lashes, and I choose the 4D when I want an extra dramatic effect.

How do you apply the Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara?

Here are my tips for applying Younique’s 4D mascara:

1. At the lash root: Place the side of the brush with the most fibers (the “flat” side) at the base of your upper lashes, then move upward toward the tip.
2. Separation/ curling: Slightly twist the wand to use the other side (with longer bristles) and zigzag to separate each lash and curl them.
3. Layering (optional): For an even fuller effect, you can apply a second coat before the first one is completely dry.
4. Lower lashes: Use the remaining product and gently apply it to your lower lashes. Be gentle to avoid overloading.
5. Makeup removal: Opt for a dual-phase makeup remover or cleansing oil. My tip: soak two cotton pads and place them over your closed eyes for about 10 seconds to dissolve the mascara. Then gently slide downwards. The pigments and fibers will transfer to the cotton.

Price of Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara

The Moodstruck Epic 4D mascara costs $34.

Yes, $34 for a mascara is a higher investment than the average mascaras you find in regular stores, I agree. However, considering the effect achieved, I find the quality/price ratio still very good.

For comparison, many department store mascaras (luxury brands) hover around $30-35, and none that I’ve tried gave me such a “wow” effect as Younique’s 4D. Not to mention the cost of professional eyelash extensions (which is much more expensive each month!).
